Departure on overnight flight

Day 2  (May 23)

Arrive Kilimanjaro Airport.  Our hosts will meet us outside customs and transport us to the  Mt. Meru Game Lodge. The lodge is located on 33 acres of mature, well manicured gardens bounded on one side by the rushing waters of the Usa river and on the other by the Animal Sanctuary where resident animals and birds live in peace. The lodge consists of 17 double rooms with verandahs. This location provides a great way to decompress from the long flights.

Day 3

At 8 AM our driver guides will pick up our luggage for transport via road to the western corridor of the Serengeti National Park. We will will keep one change of clothes, toiletries and camera gear for the flight (max weight 33 lbs).

In the morning we will take a cultural walk through the town of Usa River and visit the school project being supported by Acacia Photography travelers. Back to Mt. Meru Game Lodge for a quick lunch and then off to Arusha National Park for a short afternoon safari drive.  This park is a great place to start and sits between Mt. Kilimanjaro (19.320 ft ) and Mt Meru (15,780 ft).  On a clear day it is a magical setting with vistas of wildlife in front of the mountains, and provides the best photo ops for flamingos and colobus monkeys.. Overnight at the Mt. Meru Game Lodge.

Day 4

Breakfast and then fly to the western corridor airstrip in a 12 passenger plane.  We will be met by our naturalist guides who will take us to our camp for lunch and re-unite us with our luggage. We will stay at the first class Mbalageti Lodge which offers a breathtaking 360-dgree panorama view of the Serengeti Plain and the Mbalageti River. One of the main attractions is the annual migration of wildebeest and zebra which will be passing through this region at this time of year.  After lunch a safari drive that will take us through the heart of the thrilling migration.

Day 5 & 6

Dawn to dusk safari drives through the amazing western corridor... the huge crocs of the Grumeti River, possible crossings of wildebeests, a wide array of big cat sightings, and hundreds of elephants will leave you in awe of the magic of the Serengeti. Overnight at the Mbalageti Lodge.

Day  7

Safari drive from the western corridor to the center of the Serengeti and the large cat population of the Seronera region. Overnight at the Serena Serengeti. Located on a hill with awesome views across the sweeping plains the Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge is a top top rated lodge offers beautiful rooms, wonderful food and entertainment in the heart of the Serengeti.

Day 8

Safari drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area which boasts a large population of cats and other wildlife just after the rainy season and photography and viewing is more intimate because we are permitted to drive off-road.  We will stay at the Ndutu Safari Lodge, a charming resort, gives the visitor the true feel of Africa.  Wildlife wanders through the grounds daily and sitting around the campfire at night visitors compare the wonders they have seen with others from around the world.

Day 9 & 10

All day up close and personal safari drives in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA). Overnight at the Ndutu Safari Lodge. Each person has the option of going out all day for game viewing with a picnic lunch, or returning to the lodge for a few hours of R&R in the middle of the day.  The 4 vehicles do not need to stay together.  The intimacy of the wildlife photography in the NCA can not be matched, since we are permitted to drive 'off-road'. Ndutu has by far the best sunrise and sunset views through the flat topped acacia trees throughout the property.

Day 11

After breakfast we will look for game as we drive to one of the most significant origin of man archeological sites in the world. At Olduvai Gorge, the Leakey's uncovered traces of man's predecessors from 3.5 million years ago.  After a lecture and viewing the museum we will travel on to the  Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge. The lodge is set along the uppermost rim of the Ngorongoro World Heritage site, and offers breathtaking views of the crater floor far below.

Day 12

Early morning game drive in the Ngorongoro Crater (Africa's Eden).  Lunch on the crater floor and then depart for Arusha and the Serena Mountain Village Lodge. Nestled in the heart of a coffee plantation on the shores of Lake Duluti, Mountain Village Lodge will give guests a true experience of a coffee plantation and is designed as an African village. It is renowned for its collection of spectacular bougainvillea. Accommodation is housed in banana stem thatched
huts, grouped in semi-circles around tropical shade trees.
